Case Study
LIDL Supermarkets, Peterborough Glare
We were commissioned to undertake internal glare analysis on several LIDL supermarkets and warehouse facilities around the country, this was due to high levels of glare being reported by staff members affecting daily performance and personal wellbeing.
The glare was detrimentally affecting staff working within the store, with them reporting being unable to see in the worst cases. The worst area affected was a large length of glazing along one side of a large warehouse section of the supermarket. The adverse glare was being reported across numerous stores.
After some initial research and from speaking with numerous industry leading glare reduction film and glazing companies, we were able to assess the best film reduction and practical application and ensured the criteria for the reduction of glare was taken into account before analysis was considered. By speaking to the suppliers first, this would ensure that following our analysis, the results provided would not only show the reduction realized, but we could also recommend a product that could practically be installed with the least amount of inconvenience and disruption within working stores.
Several passes of analysis were undertaken reviewing the improvements noted for various types of window films and glazing options. Recommendations were then provided based on the analysis for solutions for both a retrofit and new specification items before a final report was completed in agreement with the client.
A cost effective resolution
Internal anti-glare films and specific glare reducing windows have since been installed which have improved the situation by a significant margin, ensuring a pleasant and workable internal space, whilst still maintaining internal natural lighting levels as best as possible. These are now also being considered in each new development.
